A Lesson in Faith, Healing, and Humanity

ree

Nearly four years ago, a 72-year-old lady called me, seeking help for a blocked nostril. She said she was unable to breathe properly through one side and was looking for acupuncture treatment. I told her that I practiced acupuncture and had learned how to treat nasal blockages but I had never actually treated a patient with that condition before.

She calmly replied, I trust you completely. I have read your reviews, and I know you will help me.

I was surprised how could someone place so much trust in me without even meeting me in person? But she came for treatment and continued for almost six months. Over time, her nasal blockage cleared completely, and she could breathe freely again.

Before acupuncture, she had relied on steroids and inhalers, but nothing worked. With acupuncture and a few breathing exercises, she recovered 100%.

She told me later that she had prayed to her Guru for guidance, and on Guru Nanak Jayanti, she felt her Guru led her to me. For the past 40 years, she has been going to the Gurdwara every morning at 5 AM, serving food in the kitchen — all voluntary work.

I discharged her three years ago, but every Guru Nanak Jayanti, she still visits me with food and prasad. Every year, she insists that I come to the Gurdwara.

This year on  Guru Nanak Jayanti, she visited me at 8am in the morning with prasad again and gently reminded me to visit. This time, I made sure I visit her and take blessings from Guru.

When I arrived at the Gurdwara, she proudly introduced me to her friends, saying, this is my physio because of her, I can breathe. But as I sat there, listening to the prayers and chanting, I realized it wasn’t me who healed her. It was her faith ,her trust and devotion. I was only a mediator in her healing journey.

She taught me to have complete faith in your Guru, in your path, and in the process of healing.

Physiotherapy is not just about relieving pain or treating injuries  it’s about people, their journeys, their faith, and their emotions.
